Burry Bookstore was established by Charles E. Burry, Sr. in August, 1972. Emily Burry Phillips took over the family business in 1994 and has continued the tradition of excellence that was built during those early years. Burry Bookstore has become a fixture of the community, and one that continues to serve as an enduring legacy of downtown Hartsville.
On August 31st 2015 we re-opened, bringing a new atmosphere to the community. We now carry used books, Melissa & Doug toys and a whole lot more! Burry Bookstore also hosts a variety of events and activities, such as the weekly Story Time, Literary Festivals, author reading and signings, and collaboration events with other businesses in the area. We encourage you to check here, as well as our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up to date at what’s going here at Burry Bookstore!
Burry Bookstore is a high-quality, full-line, family-type bookstore. We are members of the American Booksellers Association, the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, the Hartsville Downtown Development Association and the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce.
Located in downtown Hartsville, South Carolina, on Carolina Avenue, we have been serving our community and the surrounding area for many years. We are known for offering our customers outstanding service, above and beyond their expectations. We enjoy reaching out and making a difference in our community. Got books? If you’re cleaning out your shelves to make room for new additions, how about trying out our new trade in policy? It’s simple – you just bring your books from home, we evaluate them and in return you get store credit! Then you can use that store credit towards other Used Books! You can use the Store Credit to pay for up to half the value of your purchase.
For example: If you are buying a book for $4.97 and have $10 worth of store credit, you can use $2.50 worth of your store credit towards the purchase – leaving you with just a bill of $2.50 plus tax!
If you have any questions about the process feel free to ask at any time!
Another new addition to the store are our hours! Check out the hours page and we will see you soon!
